The practice of decorating the surface beneath one's feet is as old as man. It appeared when the earliest cave dwellers drew with colored earth.

Relics of whole floor mosaics were unearthed in Pompeii. During the middle ages, European tile makers used wooden stamps to create impression in clay tiles. Different colors of clay were then inlaid into these pockets to create patterns. Housewives were known to paint symbols and patterns on their floors.

The mid 1800's saw an increase in the use of wood parquetry, made more affordable by the introduction of machine-cut woods.
This blending of machine and man leads us into the twenty-first century where modern computer technology can work hand in hand with skilled craftsmen and artists to translate old and new designs into unique flooring works of art.
